Not even the solid defensive line of Michigan State was able to slow him down. In the two games against the Spartans, Ball had 283 total yards and six touchdowns. Oregon may have LaMichael James and De'Anthony Thomas – excellent ball carriers – but Wisconsin's “Ball” is a pigskin carrier that opponents cannot seem to shut down.
The Oregon Ducks defensive line is one of the best in college football, as it has 43 sacks on the season. That's the best in the Pac-12 and the third best in the country.

On the injury list, the Badgers may be without linebacker Ethan Armstrong, who is listed as questionable with a leg injury, while offensive lineman Peter Konz is listed as probable with an ankle injury. The Ducks have four players listed as questionable, including two wide receivers: Keanon Lowe is questionable with an arch injury, and Justin Hoffman is questionable with a head injury.
Wisconsin is 5-0 SU in its last five games overall but just 2-5 ATS in its last seven games overall. Oregon is 2-3-1 ATS in its last six overall.

The Wisconsin Badgers came to the Rose Bowl last year and were beaten by the TCU Horned Frogs. The Oregon Ducks played in the BCS National Championship Game and were beaten by the Auburn Tigers. Both have some unfinished business that they would like to tend to when they square off against one another in Rose Bowl betting action on January 2nd.

The Badgers and Ducks both survived their respective first ever conference championship games to reach this point. Both teams are ranked in the Top 10, and the winner of this one will finish in the Top 5 in the country for sure. However, with two losses apiece, both have to be disappointed with the way that the season ultimately went.

If you like offense, this is the bowl game that you are going to want to watch. The Badgers averaged 44.6 points per game this year thanks to the rushing of Heisman Trophy finalist, RB Montee Ball and the passing of QB Russell Wilson. Wilson transferred from NC State just before the start of the season, and he promptly went on to throw for 31 TDs against three picks complete 72.5 percent of his passes.

The ground game was truly insane for Wisconsin, though. Last year, Ball, RB James White, and RB John Clay all rushed for at least 900 yards and had double digits worth of touchdowns. This year, the argument could be made that it is more out of this world. Ball rushed for 1,759 yards and 32 TDs (and had six scores as a receiver), White had 683 yards and six TDs, and Wilson had 320 yards and five TDs. Add in the fact that two receivers, Nick Toon and Jared Abbrederis both had at least 800 receiving yards and a total of 16 TDs.

It's not like Oregon's offense is exactly slacking. RB LaMichael James averaged the most yards per game on the ground of any back in the nation, and he was probably hosed out of being a Heisman finalist after rushing for 1,646 yards and 17 TDs. RB Kenjon Barner had 909 yards and 11 trips to the end zone as well.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Stanford Cardinal are both going to be disappointed to not be in the BCS National Championship Game this year. Both teams were most certainly flawed though, and that's why they are going to be competing against each other in the 2012 Fiesta Bowl.

Okie State is the team that really has to be kicking itself, because it was kept out of the title game thanks to a shocking loss to the Iowa State Cyclones in a game that really was there for the taking. The good news is that the Cowboys did come out and crush the Oklahoma Sooners in Bedlam, which proved to be the de facto Big XII Championship Game this year.

QB Brandon Weeden has a great offense and a ton of talent surrounding him. He threw for 4,328 yards and 34 TDs against 12 picks. His top target was WR Justin Blackmon, who had 113 receptions, 1,336 yards, and 15 trips to the end zone. It's not like the rushing game wasn't stout as well. RB Joseph Randle had 1,193 yards on the ground and a total of 25 TDs, while his backup, RB Jeremy Smith had 645 yards and nine scores on the ground.

The stock for QB Andrew Luck is starting to fall. He was the runaway favorite for the Heisman Trophy for the mass majority of the season, but he failed to win the award and couldn't capitalize on the fact that the biggest game of the year against the Oregon Ducks was on "The Farm" in Palo Alto. Stanford was crushed in that game 53-30, and though it finished up the year at 11-1, it never really seemed like it recovered.

Luck threw for 3,185 yards and 35 scores on the campaign, but he was also picked off nine times. His top receiver, WR Chris Owusu had a terrible season that was marred with injuries, and a concussion very well could keep him out of the Fiesta Bowl as well.

RB Stepfan Taylor is clearly a rising star for the Cardinal, though. He had 1,153 yards and a total of 10 TDs on the season, matching that of TE Coby Fleener, who had 648 yards on just 32 receptions. His 20.3 yards per catch average was one of the top in the nation regardless of position and was clearly the best for tight ends in the game.

He has such a quick delivery and he anticipates his receivers' breaks so well on timing patterns that he makes difficult passes inside of 20 yards look easy. He can deliver strikes on slant passes and touch on fades in the red zone. He finds small windows and leads his receivers well so that their momentum carries them to yards after the catch.

Short accuracy: Oklahoma State's offense depends on Weeden making these throws and he does that consistently. He spreads the wealth and hits receivers in stride, which is necessary to move the chains in this offense. It's predicated on getting the ball in playmakers' hands and Weeden does that. Eight OSU receivers have at least 19 catches.

Throughout the better part of this season, I’ve been pushing the notion that our defense was our only saving grace. Coming into the Gator Bowl however, it is the offense that is going to win or lose this game.
Passing Improvement vs. Passing Struggles
When you look at these two offenses over the course of the season, they both pretty much sucked. However, when you look at the improvement of these two offenses over the course of the season a much different picture emerges. Most of the commentary and Gator Bowl predictions seem to focus on Ohio State’s offensive stats taken at their entirety. Florida blog “Alligator Army” is a perfect example. Although they provide a great analysis of a number of Miller’s touchdown passes, they conclude by saying, “It’s pretty safe to say that the Buckeyes aren’t very good at passing the football” and provide a link to season long stats as support.
However, as the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Doug Lesmerises points out, when we look to the end of the season and particularly the Michigan game, a different picture begins to emerge. By the second half of the season and the Michigan game in particular, Joe Bauserman is out of the picture and only in the Michigan game do we see the Buckeye offense at full strength. By Michigan, DeVier Posey back with a game under his belt and Miller is starting to find his passing form. He threw for a total 235 yards against Michigan and the Buckeyes put up 34 points. By the time the Michigan game rolled around we saw a confidence in the passing game that we had not seen all season. As Michigan managed to slow the run, the Buckeyes were able to adjust by throwing the ball.Marvin Fong, The Plain DealerSenior center Mike Brewster (50) will complete his standout Ohio State career and quarterback Braxton Miller (5) will finish his freshman season when the Buckeyes play Florida in Monday's Gator Bowl.
Unlike the Buckeyes, the Florida offense has nothing to support the potential for improvement. Florida finished the season 0-5 against ranked opponents and Florida quarterback John Brantley threw three interceptions in his final showing against Florida State. Unlike Miller, who went through a huge learning curve this season, Brantley is a senior who will be playing in his last game as a Gator. He has two freshmen backups in Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel who may also see time.
Other than November wins against Venderbilt and Furhman (really, Furhman?!) the Gators need to go back to September to find a victory. Not a lot for Gator fans to hang their hat on.
So Turn to the Run
Up until the last few games of the season, the Buckeyes relied almost exclusively on the running game. Meanwhile Florida has struggled against the same. Add a mobile quarterback and Florida could be in for trouble. Vanderbilt’s Jordan Rogers exposed Florida’s weakness against a scrambling quarterback putting up 297 yards through the air and two touchdowns. If it wasn’t for Vanderbilt’s inability to stop the run, the Gators probably wouldn’t have squeaked past.
Now throw Boom Herron into the mix. Yes, Florida has seen some big backs and again, they have struggled. Alabama’s Trent Richardson managed 181 yards in 29 carries while LSU’s Spencer Ware and Alfred Blue combined for a total 179 yards against the Gators. That said, like the Buckeye offense the Gator defense is young and has shown some improvement through the season. If the Buckeyes can get their offensive line firing on all cylinders and get the push off the line, they could open some big opportunities for Herron, Miller and Jordan Hall.
With Florida’s struggles on offense, expect them to try to establish the run early. With inconsistency at the quarterback position, look for Chris Rainey and Jeffery Demps to do the majority of the offensive work for the Gators. Although again, they struggled against the likes of LSU and Alabama (understandably so), they have put up 1,300+ yards between the two of them this season.
By the time the Ohio State defense got to the Michigan game, it was looking more like a war of attrition. Andrew Sweat was out and Denard Robinson ran straight at injured freshman Ryan Shizier for most of the second half. The Ohio State defense should look much different come the Gator Bowl as both Sweat and Shizier are expected to be healthy and ready to play. The combination could give Buckeye fans one of the best defensive looks they’ve seen all season. A healthy Ohio State defense brings not only the potential to put some serious pressure on whoever steps in at quarterback for the Gators but also shut down a must have Gator running game.
Offensive Coaching
This is one of the more interesting story lines of the game. The Gators have lost their high profile offensive coach Charlie Weis and look to Brian White to call plays. The Gator Bowl is nothing short of a job interview for White and it will be interesting to see what he can do. For Ohio State, it is the end of an era as the Jim Bohlman/John Tressel era comes to and end. One would hope that in looking to go out with a bang, these two Coach Tressel holdovers could find it in them to unleash a powerful offensive attack. That said, I’m not holding my breath in the meantime.
So with a mere two point spread favoring the Gators, I’m giving it to the Buckeyes by at least a touchdown if not more. Even with a bowless 2012 season, there is just too much excitement surrounding the Buckeyes at this moment. A commanding win at the Gator Bowl would be the perfect spring board to a middle-finger-waving 2012 undefeated season.
Michigan has the sixth-best offense in the FBS, but the run defense of Mississippi State is enough for the Gator Bowl odds to favor the Bulldogs by 4.5 points over the Wolverines.

The Michigan State Spartans are probably one of the only teams in the country that aren't necessarily looking forward to their trip to the Sunshine State this bowl season. They have to take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2012 Outback Bowl, and just the site of the sign that says "Welcome to Florida" has to make Sparty want to cringe.

Michigan State has played in bowl games in Florida six times in team history, and it only has one win, a 37-34 victory over the Florida Gators in the Florida Citrus Bowl. Last year, the team was back at the Citrus Bowl once again for the Capital One Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide, and it was embarrassed 49-7 in a game that wasn't ever really close. The hope is that this year, the team doesn't find itself in a similar situation against another team that is severely underrated.

Last bowl season, the Bulldogs were in big trouble, as they finished the season out becoming the first SEC team to lose to a Conference USA team in the Liberty Bowl when they put together an ugly showing against the UCF Knights. The pressure only turned up over the course of the first two games of this year, as UGA was beaten by the Boise State Broncos and South Carolina Gamecocks. Head Coach Mark Richt was literally probably days away from being fired, but he turned the team around and won 10 straight games before losing in the SEC Championship Game to the LSU Tigers in a loss that has absolutely no shame attached to it.

QB Aaron Murray is a fantastic signal caller in the making, and he is going to be building on what should be a great career "Between the Hedges." This is the end of his sophomore season, and he already has broken the record for most passing touchdowns in a single season this year with 33 scores, and he already third in Georgia history for passing touchdowns in a career and is sixth in school history for most passing yards in a career.

The Spartans might have as much motivation as their head coach did for his bowl announcement press conference. After MSU lost in heartbreaking fashion to Wisconsin for the Big Ten NCAA odds title, Mark Dantonio was a no-show for the presser.
He said he got lost and his phone wasn’t ringing. Sure coach, we believe you.

“Still hurting,” senior quarterback Kirk Cousins said afterward. “I’d be lying to you if I told you I’m moving forward and feeling great and we’ll be OK.”

Cousins has enjoyed a fantastic senior season (3,016 yards, 24 TDs, seven INTs) and is sure to be picked in the NFL Draft this summer. His favorite target has been future NFLer B.J.
