WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly and opponent Aleksy Kuziemski both made the weight for their fight at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday. Poland's Kuziemski - who is ranked 11th by the WBO - replaces Tony Bellew in fighting the unbeaten Welshman. Bellew was called in at short notice after Juergen Braehmer withdrew, claiming he had an eye injury. But at Thursday's check weigh-in Bellew came in at over 13 stone, with the light-heavyweight limit at 12st 7lb. Unlike Bellew, Kuziemski had no problem making the limit, coming in at 12st 6lb 12oz at Friday's official weigh-in. Cleverly came in two ounces lighter. "We have a check-weight system to stop people crash dieting and we monitor them accordingly," Robert Smith, general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC), told BBC Sport on Thursday. "But Bellew came in at 13st 1lb. He was way over." Promoter Frank Warren considered staging the fight at a catch weight, with the meeting going ahead as a non-title bout, but instead decided to find a new opponent. That man is 34-year Kuziemski, who has two defeats - one of which was against Braehmer - from 23 fights and five knockouts. Kuziemski is also the former WBO Intercontinental and German light-heavyweight champion For Cleverly, it has been an unpredictable few days with the unbeaten 24-year-old awarded Braehmer's WBO title after it was stripped from the German for failing to show up for the fight. Cleverly was the interim champion and earned Braehmer's title by default on Wednesday. Nathan Cleverly is one of boxing's biggest brains with a degree in mathematics, but even he will be struggling to do the numbers this week as yet another opponent had to be lined up to face him for his first defence of the WBO title.
Cleverly will now face Poland's Aleksy Kuziemski at the O2 Arena after first replacement Tony Bellew was beaten by the scales, but the Welshman is still looking to end a rollercoaster week on a high.
At the start of the week, Cleverly was preparing to face the now former WBO champion Juergen Braehmer and the Welshman was the big underdog going into the bout.
But when the German never arrived in the UK due to an eye injury, Cleverly was rightly handed the WBO strap after Braehmer was stripped of his title for his no-show.
That sparked a mad dash by promoter Frank Warren to get a new opponent so that Saturday night's show wouldn't be a disappointment – and he delivered Liverpool's Bellew.
However, with such late notice, Bellew could not get anywhere near the 12st 7lb light-heavyweight limit and at an evening check weigh-in yesterday, the British Boxing Board of Control correctly ruled that the Liverpudlian would be putting his health at risk to make the weight.
A blessing in disguise for Bellew and boxing fans, as the 28-year-old would never have been fully prepared and after a press conference bust-up yesterday, he has ensured he will get his chance to face Cleverly down the line.
Fortunately Warren was on the ball and foreseen that Bellew may struggle with making the weight, so had Kuziemski lined up to step in straight away and the Pole was on a flight to London within minutes of Bellew pulling out.
It's certainly not the show that Braehmer or Bellew would have created, but Cleverly will just be thankful he hasn't wasted months of training and will be hoping to put up a display for his fans.
The Welshman will have to put the week's distractions behind him and focus on the job in hand as a defeat against Kuziemski would be a nightmare ending and the Polish fighter won't be a pushover despite only having late notice for the fight.
Kuziemski has already been in training, unlike Bellew, and will be looking to cause a huge upset at the O2 Arena on Saturday.
It has been a tough few days for Cleverly that has seen him go from underdog to champion and now to red-hot favourite, but the Welsh maths wizard will still need to have his sums right on the night against the tough Pole.

Form Guide: Cleverly won the right to a shot at Braehmer with an impressive win over Karo Murat in September last year but a below par showing against Nadjib Mohammedi raised some questions about the Welshman. Kuziemski comes into the fight off the back of two wins, although the Pole has struggled in the bigger fights including losing in 2009 to Cleverly's original opponent, Braehmer.

NATHAN CLEVERLY:
The Welshman is relieved that his months of work in the gym have not gone to waste ater a turbulent week.
The new WBO champion has remained fully focused on Saturday night but admits it has been less than ideal with all the changes.
He said: "I think I've been through everything in the last 48 hours. The main thing for me is that I'm still fighting and that all my hard work has not gone to waste.
"It's been a mad time but I've been through this before and I'm professional enough to deal with it. Let's face it, any problems after this fight will be nothing in comparison.
Cleverly also claims he's put thoughts of the more mouth-watering clashes with Bellew and Braehmer to the back of his mind and has set about working out how to overcome his latest opponent.
"I've got to get my head round to focusing on Kuziemski now, he is the man in front of me on Saturday night so I've got to forget about Bellew and Braehmer altogether.
"He's got a good record, he's highly ranked and he's been in with some good guys so he won't be a pushover."
Strategy: Cleverly will look to take his frustrations out on Kuziemski and will start fast as he looks to put on a show for his fans who will no doubt be disappointed with the change of opponents. But the Welshman will still need to be wary, and if he doesn't get the Polish fighter out early, he may slow the pace down to ensure there's no upset.
ALEKSY KUZIEMSKI:
A lot of respect has to be given to the Polish fighter for agreeing to the match-up at such late notice, although he is likely to be paid handsomely for going in without any preparation time and he has got his first shot at a major world title. With just two defeats on his record, including one against Braehmer, and 21 wins, Kuziemski is ranked No 11 in the WBO rankings and that means the Pole is technically deserving of his title shot. However, the late notice together with his failure to step up in big fights in the past, means he is a low-risk opponent for Cleverly to be facing in his first defence, but he will put up a fight early on at least.

Hours later, the Welshman was having to deal with the news that there had been yet another change to his opponent after Bellew had been weighed by the BBBC at his hotel.

His promoter Warren added: "It's been a nightmare, but we've managed to keep the show together.
"Kuziemski is ranked higher by the WBO than Tony Bellew [by three places] so he is a good fighter.
"Tony did not fulfil the weight criteria and you have to put safety first.
"We considered a catch weight but that would not have been fair on Nathan. It would have been a difference of 12 pounds and that would not have been fair on Nathan's health.
"But at least we had a stand-by. Nathan is angry about the whole thing, the press conference was very emotional but he has to get himself together and refocus. The show must go on."
But despite the disruption to Cleverly's preparation, his father and trainer Vince insists the Cefn Forest fighter will be fully focused on Saturday.
"Nathan is a total professional, we've seen Kuziemski boxing on the net, against Braehmer in fact, we've planned for it and he'll be alright," Vince Cleverly told BBC Sport.
"He is taking it all in his stride. We thought Braehmer might be doing this so we sparred with orthodox boxers just in case. Don't worry - he will do the business."
